VeganMoFo: Whole Food's Favorites

I know, I know, pre-made foods are totally not the way to go.

But what if they're vegan, and not really processed, and, well... completely and utterly delicious? I'm talking so delicious that they'll have you slaving away, trying in earnest to replicate their perfection?

You buy them. In bulk. Each and every damn time you're at Whole Foods.

Yea, that's pretty much what you do.

Meet, Exhibit A (pictured above) - the most scrumptiously, addictive, chewy, vegan peanut buttery, chocolate chip cookies you'll every eat from a plastic container. These cookies are packed with yummy chocolate chips and peanuts, and for some reason, they even have a hint of coconut flavor.

Although it's safe to say that they're a very occasional indulgence, when I do choose to enjoy them, it's incredibly hard to eat just one... (Make sure to try the plain chocolate chip flavor too, they're just as fantastic!)

Now, it's on to Exhibit B - Soul Gourmet's Vegan Taco Salad. Let me just say - this is one of my most favorite vegan grocery store meals ever. The "taco meat" is made from bulger, and it has just the right amount of spice and chewiness. And the sour cream(ish) topping is absolutely to-die-for! (In fact, I've been trying to re-create it for months, but I'm not quite there yet.)

Despite the pricey-ness of these two items, I just keep coming back for more. What are some of your favorite vegan ready-made meals/desserts?

  2. I have never seen this taco salad at Whole Foods. I wonder if we don't get it in Texas. I will have to ask next time I'm there.

  3. The taco salad looks great! I haven't seen that before. Is it something that's just local to your Whole Foods? Sometimes I like to get a slice of the WF in-house pizza. But they don't always have a vegan one.

  4. I try to steer away from packaged food just because of the cost, but really Whole Foods does have some things that are just too hard to resist! I just think of them as special treats and try my hardest not to go back to Whole Foods within the week! Those cookies do sounds absolutely wonderful

  5. Did you buy your taco salad at Green Grocer on Grand? We may have run into each other there and didn't know it.

  6. My fav pre packed vegan dessert is probably the cookies shasha makes. I love how crisp and tiny they are!

  7. @mamarati & chowvegan: I think the taco salad is only available in the Chicago area. In fact, I've only found it at ONE WF's near me (& there are tons of them around) - ugh! It's soo good I wish I could email it to both of you to try - LOL!

@Brittany Boersma: Definitely trying those shasha cookies - thanks for the idea :)

  8. @snarkyvegan: I've actually never been to Green Grocer, although I've been meaning to check it out forever. Now that I know they have that taco salad, I am totally there! BTW, I hope you didn't have nightmares after those horrible IL election results (except for Quinn, that is).

  9. What I love are those McDougall's soups in the cardboard tubs that have the spice packet inside and you just add boiling water. Those are good and not terribly unhealthy! If I knew where to get one of those taco salads, though, I'd never eat one of those tubs of soup for lunch again!
